ഞാന് ഒരിക്കലും ഒരു നാട്ടിന്പുറത്ത് പോയിട്ടില്ല. നാട്ടിന്പുറത്തെ ഓണങ്ങള് കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല, കളികള് കളിച്ചിട്ടില്ല, പൂക്കളങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയിട്ടില്ല. എന്തിന്, നാട്ടിന്പുറം പോയിട്ട് കേരളത്തില് പോലും ഓണം ആഘോഷിചിട്ടില്ല. എന്റെ ഓണം എന്നു പറഞ്ഞാല് മലയാളി അസ്സോസിയേഷന്സും, കുട്ടുകാരുടെ കൂടെ അവധരിപിക്കുന്ന ഓണവുമായിട്ട് ഒരു ബന്ധവം ഇല്ലാത്ത ഹിന്ദി നൃത്തങ്ങളും, പൊട്ട സ്കിറ്റുകളും, മാവേലിയെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് വലിയ മീശയും ഒട്ടിച്ച് ‘ഹാ ഹാ ഹാ’ എന്ന് ചിരിചോണ്ട് വരുന്ന അങ്കിള്മാരും.. പിന്നെ, ഫോട്ടോയില് മാത്രം കാണുന്ന അത്തപൂവും, ഊഞ്ഞാലും. എനിക്ക് മാവേലിയുടെ കഥ പറഞ്ഞു തന്നത് മുത്തശ്ശിയല്ല, google ആണ്.
എന്റെ പ്രായത്തില് ഉള്ളവര് “I hate Onam” എന്നു ഫേസ്സ്ബുക്ക് സ്റ്റാറ്റസില് എഴുതുമ്പോള് ഒരു വലാത്ത വിശമം തോന്നുന്നു. അവരുടെ ഓണങ്ങള് ഈ അസ്സോസിയേഷന് പ്രോഗ്രാമും അതിന് വേണ്ടിയുള്ള പ്രാക്റ്റീസ്കളും മാത്രമാണ്. അവര്ക്ക് വേറെ ഓര്മകളില്ല. ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് പോയാല് പിന്നെ, അവരുടെ കാലെന്ടരുകളില് ഓണം കുറിച്ചുവക്കില്ല, ഫോട്ടകളില് പോലും അവരുടെ പിള്ളെര് ഓണം കാണില്ല.
എനിക്ക് കടുവാകളി കാണണം, അത്തം തൊട്ട് തിരുവോണം വരെ എല്ലാ ദിവസവും പൂക്കളങ്ങള് ഉണ്ടാക്കണം, തിരുവാതിര ഒരു സ്റ്റേജില് അല്ലാതെ ഒരു വീട്ടില് ചെയ്യണം, തനി നാടന് കളികള് കളിക്കണം, ഓണകോടി വാങ്ങണം, സദ്യ ഇലയില് ഉണണം, മുടിയില് ഒരുപാട് മുല്ലപൂവിടണം, പാര്ക്കില് അല്ലാതെ മരത്തില് ഉള്ള ഊഞ്ഞാലില് ആടണം.
ഒരു ദിവസം എങ്കില് ഒരു ദിവസം, ഞാന് ശരിക്കും ഒരു മലയാളിയാണെന്ന് തോന്നണം. എന്നെകാലും ഭാഗ്യമുള്ള എല്ലാ മലയാളികള്ക്കും എന്റെ ഓണാശംസകള്.

first of all I wish you a happy onam.
onam is celebrated by malayaleese all over world.
As you said they have their celebrations in stages.but I can really assure that an onam celebrated in kerala will the twice or thrice better than an onam celeberated so.

Well? Thank you! Not too many people tell me that.. haha I learned Malayalam as my second language until 3nd standard (so, obviously not much). Now, I’m trying to learn more. I read a lot of blogs, use mashithantu.com and try to read the paper. But it’s still not great. I want to learn though so I guess I’ll keep trying! haha

Your post gave me a new insight into the young people’s way of looking at Onam – that they hate it due to the practices involved for the “final show”. I wish Onam could be really meaningful to more people.
You write well, in the sense that the reader can feel your feelings.

പ്രാക്റ്റീസിനെ മാത്രമല്ല. എല്ലാം. കൂടുതല് ആള്ക്കരേയും അവരുടെ മാതാപിതാക്കള് തള്ളിവിടുന്നതാ ഇതിനൊക്കെ.. അതുക്കോണ്ട് തന്നെ അത് ഇഷ്ട്പെടില്ല.
എല്ലാവരുടെയും കാര്യമല്ല.. പക്ഷെ ഇവിടെ അങ്ങനത്തെ ഒരുപാട് പേരുണ്ട്.
