I absolutely love this song. And after watching an interview, I like the singer too (his hair in particular). Of course, Gayatri has always been one of my favorites.
Some of the syllables were really hard to decipher- thus the question marks. Feel free to point out corrections. Also, is there more to the song? This is all I heard in the online versions but I feel it’s incomplete.. just a thought.
Rahul  Raj, keep rocking! =)

dum dum dummm… I haven’t been writing at all recently. My friend termed it ’summeritis’. I concur, I guess. I can’t believe summer’s going to end soon. What happened to July? August always goes by fast so I can’t blame her this time. But July? Et tu, Brute? That’s depressing. I’m scared, excited, nervous and in a peeinthepants mood for this year. But shh, I’m not worrying about it…yet.

I saw half of Manjil Virinja Pookal. It’s funny how Sankar is the hero and Mohanlal is the villain. And today, Sankar is nonexistent and Mohanlal is Read the rest of this entry »

Congratulations to A.R. Rahman and Resul Pookkutty! Quite well-deserved Oscars for both of them. As for Rahman, he really deserved an Oscar for his first film, Roja, and so, this is quite late. And neither Jai ho nor any of the songs from Slumdog Millionaire can be considered his best work compared to his other 135 soundtracks. But then again, as they say, it doesn’t matter where the runs come from; better late that never for him. And for Pookutty, what a true honor for a Malayalee, for a child among eight from rural Kerala to grab an Academy Award! An inspiration to many, I’m sure.

The only thing that I wasn’t so pleased about was the movie itself. I went to see it after my friends raved about how amazing it was. Spectacular. I saw. Came out. And thought, okay. It was good, of course well worth it’s eight Oscars, but not quite spectacular. A three-hour Bollywood movie squished into 120 minutes. I felt like something was lacking. But more than that, what annoyed me was that every possible stereotype about India and about Mumbai were incorporated. The director took great liberties in distorting reality with perhaps a bit of imagination. If America was a truly cosmopolitan nation, fully understanding of the global world, I wouldn’t worry because I know they will see it as one part of India. But as of now, America isn’t that. And so, movies like these only strengthen stereotypes. Only poverty. Only slums. Only illiteracy. Only unsanitary conditions. Only India. It was a good movie but I only wish it showed a bit of the other side too.

Congrats ARR, Congrats Pookutty! And most of all, congrats Mumbai! Hope these sons of yours at least relieved a bit of pain from 26/11. They truly showed that talent has no boundaries and nature knows no borders. What a proud moment!

Note: Btw, loved how Rahman added “Ella Pugallum Iraivanukke” in his speech. So talented yet so humble!

10 Minutes is a short film by Ahmed Imamovic. It takes place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Rome, Italy. The film began with an Asian tourist in Rome to whom 10 minutes was a short amount of time. Simultaneously, in Sarajevo, a mother tells her son to get some water and bread. This is in 1994, when the wars in Sarajevo are at its full peak. The poor boy comes back to see a horrid sight. In ten “short” minutes, the tourist gets his photos washed, still amazed at technology’s advancement, while the boy loses everything he had… We take so many things for granted and we don’t realize the worth of those things. 10 minutes? That seems so short to us; we don’t understand how life-changing those ten minutes really could be.

Have you ever wondered what goes through the mind of a killer? I hate reading the news.. so many people are dying.. moreover, so many people are killing. How can a person watch another person die like that? I wonder what that Cho guy was thinking when he shot his classmates.. did he feel guilty when he shot himself? Or did he feel powerful, that he had the right to choose between life and death? What did it solve for him? Bullying is supposedly the reason why all these shooting at schools/colleges are happening.. but does killing innocent people solve the problem? Does the ‘victim’ feel like he/she has had revenge when someone who they probably never even talked to is killed? Are they satisfied? when they kill themselves. do they feel as though their life was full?

I don’t know what made me wake up with those thoughts in my head..

I’m watching Nishabd right now. It’s an interesting movie.. a 60 year old man falls in love with an 18-year old girl. I liked it. The dialogues were awesome. The setting was to die for; it was amazing, I really want to go to that place. I loved it when the girl (Jia) asked “Why is the sky blue?” The man (Amitabh Bachan) said, “Tell me.” “Because I didn’t like it red. So I painted it blue.” How awesome is that? If that 60 year old man was a bachelor, it would have been okay actually but he was married and had a daughter who was Jia’s age. That’s what made the story interesting. His daughter’s name was Rita. She was Jia’s friend and had a smaller role in the movie.. but the whole time, I was thinking, what would I do if I was in Rita’s place? If my best friend loved my dad… that would be crazy, very, very crazy.

I am..

Tying a string to the sun
Making mirrors into moons
Flying kites above the sky
Touring the world on clouds
Walking under seven seas
Dancing through the wind
Laughing with the rain
Holding worlds in my palm
Chasing shadows through the stream
Running behind memory
Falling upon dreams
In the world and Out of it too.
