On saying “Good Morning” after dinner

By Yuriy Khimanin
we talk about love across
phone lines
love across oceans
love across continents
that hold each other in fists
we hold each other in pixels

we talk about love across
phone lines
ancient egypt, mesopotamia,
white colonizers in kolkata
letters from poets, letters from explorers
letters from those who knew to dissect
my love strung on a spice trade line
love through middlemen
(repeatedly ask: are there middle-women?)
we do not write more than we miss

we talk about love across
phone lines
places are someone’s mistakes
same sky, same sun, same stars
same you, same me, same hearts
– same hands.
we talk about love across
phone lines
never the love in our hearts
never the love in our hands
never the love in our homes

  1. I absolutely love what you write and I’m a solid fan of yours. I especially love ‘Ugly and Somewhat Unapologetic’ because I’m dark skinned myself! Please, please do keep writing, you lovely human being, you.
